every rim manufacturer claims their materials are "aircraft grade aluminum", but never know what that means. It is the type of impurities, amount of impurities, location (on grain boundaries if you are in the material science world), etc. Anyway, if the rim is ruined anyway, you might as well give it a try. I think it would be hard to heat it enough to get it ductile without heating the whole rim - good point by Marshall. I don't know about a 100 dollar fix, but maybe you'll luck out. I'd certainly ask WHAT they are going to do, heat-wise, to fix it and if they then do a "stress relieve" after fixing it. The stress relieve would involve an additional heat treatment on the entire rim to relieve any stresses made from localized heating and/or bending. Cheers!
